History

Damac Transporters has operated a successful fleet for over 45 years, and our track record has attracted many blue-chip companies to select Damac as their preferred transport partners.

Damac Transporters Limited was founded in 1976 by David Mackrill (Pictured). Based in Grimsby during the early eighties Damac developed a container and modal bulk transport service working closely with Scandinavian companies. The principal products handled were plastic granules and Sodium powdered products. In 1983 the company diversified into the import of Polish Cement. During 1987 the company transferred its operations to premises in Goole, East Yorkshire. This move enabled the company to provide a more focused and in-depth service through the concentration of events and personnel on one purpose-designed site. Damac specialises in the movement of bulk cargo and can offer a range of equipment to suit most needs, from dedicated road barrel tanks, ISO Modular pressurised tanks and containers to tipping skeletals of all sizes. Some of our existing customers can trace their roots back to our first cement customer NIC, we are proud to have maintained customer relationships for so long and believe it is testament to the excellent service we provide.

Damac Bulk Handling started business in Goole handling imported Polish cement on behalf of Nordic Industrial Cement The first silo installation in Goole was built in 1987. The silo has a capacity of 2,500 cubic metres and is still in use today. Product is discharged by compressed air through an aerated floor system and is fed by screw into tankers. The product is loaded directly into tankers which are placed on the weighbridge adjacent to the silos. All loading is controlled by computers and extremely accurate loading weights are achieved. To accommodate the increased volumes of cement that was being imported into the U.K. Damac built a second silo in 1990. Throughout the late nineties demand continued to grow and a third silo was built in 1999. All three silos operate independently of each other which allows greater flexibility in the handling of a variety of products. In recent years we have expanded our offerings with an additional 4,500 cubic metre silo at Goole and a larger 7,500 cubic metre silo at our new terminal in Hull. Both silos are constructed from concrete and offer the latest in powder handling, storage and tanker loading, driving further efficiencies in our business.

Sextant Shipping & Forwarding Ltd was founded in 1986 primarily to handle the shipping interests of Nordic Industrial Cement Limited (NIC Limited), importing approximately 120,000 metric tonnes of bulk cement products per annum. The company's activities comprise of chartering, freight contracting, brokerage, ships agency, general stevedoring, warehousing, forwarding and road haulage operations. Over the years, Sextant has become specialised in the total logistics of various bulk commodities. The company has developed a close working relationship with shippers, charterers and owners alike, all of whom are engaged in this 'highly specialised' industry. We are able to offer individual transport solutions from manufacturer/producer to end user, concentrating on niche markets in specialist fields. Since Sextant's conception, substantial volume has been carried on behalf of many cement manufacturing companies and traders, particularly in the U.K. and Northern Europe. We continue to provide a vital link in our customers supply chains.

The Future – The Damac Group of companies is still very much a family run affair. Dave’s daughter, Cathy, has led the business since 2007 and has successfully grown the business since then. With additional silos and a larger modern fleet, we look forward to an exciting future.
